Alex van Stipriaan Luïscius is a professor emeritus in Caribbean History and Culture at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He began his academic career as a lecturer in 1986 and became a full professor in 1996 after completing his PhD cum laude at Free University Amsterdam in 1991. Over the years, he has combined his professorship with a curatorship at the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam, where he worked for ten years.
