Biography

Alexander Wong is a Professor in Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo and holds the Canada Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence Medical Imaging. He is a member of the College of the Royal Society of Canada and co-director of the Vision Image Processing Lab. He earned his BASc in Computer Engineering in 2005, MASc in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2007, and PhD in Systems Design Engineering in 2010, all from the University of Waterloo. His research focuses on computational imaging and artificial intelligence, where he has published over 600 refereed papers and holds numerous patents. His work includes advancements in integrative computational imaging systems for biomedical applications and operational artificial intelligence. Wong’s contributions have been recognized with multiple awards for outstanding performance in research and education. He is also the founder of DarwinAI, a company dedicated to accelerating deep learning developments. His teaching interests include pattern recognition and information systems, and he has guided numerous graduate students in their research endeavors in AI and imaging sciences.
