Dr. Alex Wong

Biography

Alex Wong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Carleton University, where he also serves as the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies. He holds a B.A. and M.A. from Carleton University and completed his Ph.D. at Cornell University. His research focuses on genetic adaptation, particularly the consequences of genetic interactions, such as epistasis, and the rates and patterns of molecular evolution. Wong's laboratory employs a variety of approaches to address questions in microbial experimental evolution, next-generation sequencing, and the inference of historical evolutionary processes using comparative genomic and molecular population genetic data. He has contributed to several significant publications in high-impact journals, exploring topics such as antibiotic resistance, protein-protein interaction networks, and the dynamics of microbial communities.
