Biography

Alex Woodgate-Jones is a Principal Teaching Fellow in the Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton. His teaching predominantly involves the BSc Education Studies program, where he serves as Associate Programme Director, and he also contributes to the Primary PGCE program with a focus on primary pedagogy, as well as Masters Education programs. Alex's research interests center on modern foreign language teaching, the evolving role of teachers, and promoting emotional well-being among children. He completed his PhD on the introduction of modern foreign language initiatives in primary schools in England, emphasizing the significance of linguistic competence and intercultural understanding. Alex is an active member of the Centre for Research Inclusion, exploring relationships between teaching practices and positive behavior management. He has reviewed papers for esteemed journals such as Teaching and Teacher Education and Language Learning Journal. Alex’s professional journey began with a degree in French and Spanish, followed by teaching in the Basque Country, which sparked his ongoing interest in educational methodologies. After returning to the UK, he completed his PGCE and took on roles in primary education across Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.
