Biography

Alexa Manuel is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of English Language and Literatures at the University of British Columbia. She completed her Ph.D. from the same institution in March 2024. Her dissertation, titled “Stories Lands, Bodies Dreams: tmixwcentric Literary Theory,” proposes a literary theory based on Syilx knowledge. Her research engages with Indigenous authors' contributions to discussions surrounding queer feminist rhetoric, grounded normativity, and Indigenous Literary Nationalism. Through her teaching, she aims to cultivate an understanding of the relationships between land, identity, and storytelling among Syilx people. She teaches ENGL_V 231: Introduction to Indigenous Literatures, exploring the profound connections between literature and the lived experiences of Indigenous communities.
