Biography

Dr. Alexeev joined Georgia Tech in 2008 as an assistant professor. His research background is in fluid mechanics, utilizing computer simulations to solve engineering problems involving complex fluids, multiphase flows, fluid-structure interactions, and soft materials. While at the Technion, he investigated resonance oscillations of gases and periodic shock waves, which are crucial for enhancing the agglomeration of small airborne particles, a significant area for air pollution control technology. Additionally, he studied wave propagation in granular materials and the effects of fluidization in inelastic granules during his postdoctoral studies at TU Darmstadt. His work has implications for heat transport in microgravity environments. At the University of Pittsburgh, he explored the motion of micrometer-sized compliant particles on patterned substrates to improve the control of particles in microfluidic devices, which are essential for biological assays and tissue engineering. Dr. Alexeev's research interests also encompass designing microfluidic systems that mimic the sensing and actuation functions of microorganisms, addressing challenges in replicating biologically-inspired functionalities in engineered solutions.
