Biography

Alexander Clarkson, born in Canada and educated in Hanover, Germany, specializes in Modern History. He studied at Balliol College, Oxford, graduating in 2000 and earning his doctorate in September 2006 from the University of Oxford. Clarkson began his teaching career as a Lecturer in Modern History at New College, Oxford, before joining the European and International Studies Department at King's College London in 2007. His research focuses on European borders, migration studies, and German politics, especially regarding the impact of transnational diaspora communities on politics in Germany and Europe since 1945. He examines how these diasporas, particularly from Ukraine, Algeria, Iran, Croatia, Turkey, Syria, Libya, and Lebanon, intersect with the politics of their countries of origin and the European Union.
