Originally from the Philippines, Alexander R. de Leon received his PhD in Statistics from the University of Alberta. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Calgary, where he enjoys teaching a wide variety of courses. His research interests include areas such as diagnostic tests, copula models, estimating functions and equations, joint models, methods for correlated data, mixed effects models, and statistical problems in medicine including causal inference and mediation analysis. Alexander has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Statistical Computation & Simulation from 2013 to 2021 and is currently a Topics Editor for Research Methods in Medicine & Health Sciences since 2020. He has participated actively in many university strategic initiatives and has served on various committees. His research work is supported by the Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). He has also collaborated internationally as a visiting professor/researcher at several institutions around the world, including the University of the Philippines-Diliman and Middle East Technical University. Alexander is dedicated to advancing the field of statistics through both teaching and research.
