Biography

Alex Demkov is a professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Texas at Austin. He served as a principal staff scientist at Motorola's R&D organization from 1997 to 2005, where he provided theoretical support for the development of low- and high-k dielectric materials. He later joined the faculty in the Physics Department at the University of Texas at Austin in 2005. His research has made significant contributions to the field of materials physics, particularly focusing on oxide heterostructures and integrated silicon photonics. Over his career, Demkov has published more than 280 papers and has been awarded 10 patents. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society and a senior member of the IEEE. His notable work includes studies on the electro-optic response of materials and the applications of barium titanate in silicon photonics.
