Biography

Alex Jaworski obtained a Master's degree in Biochemistry from the Free University of Berlin in Germany and completed his PhD in Developmental Genetics at New York University. He underwent postdoctoral training at Genentech and Rockefeller University before joining the faculty at Brown University in July 2013. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying axon guidance and neural circuit formation. His laboratory studies the intricate cellular mechanisms that support brain wiring, exploring how billions of neurons connect to form functional networks that communicate through trillions of synapses. The lab aims to understand the guidance of nascent axons to appropriate targets during brain wiring, investigating the molecular cues and signaling pathways that govern this critical aspect of brain development. His work employs a combination of experimental approaches from molecular biology, biochemistry, embryology, and mouse genetics to address questions in the field. His research is intended to inform therapeutic approaches for neurodevelopmental disorders and aims to repair damaged neuronal connections resulting from physical injury or neurodegenerative disease.
