Biography

Alexander Y. Kozhanov is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University. He earned his Master of Science in 2003 and his Ph.D. in 2006 from Lomonosov Moscow State University. His research interests focus on quantum computing with trapped ions, exploring mid-circuit qubit measurement and resetting mechanisms. He has published various papers in prominent journals, including Physical Review Research and Journal of Vacuum Science Technology. Before joining Duke, he was a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Maryland, College Park, from 2020 to 2021. Kozhanov's work encompasses the analysis of ion yields in secondary ion mass spectrometry and the development of next-generation quantum computing systems. He has been a member of the Duke Quantum Center and has instructed courses in optics, photonics, and solid-state physics. His contributions to the field include significant advancements in magnetostatic spin-wave devices and their applications.
