Biography

Alexander Ploss received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Tübingen, Germany. He continued his training at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Washington, Seattle, and the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, Germany. He completed his Ph.D. in Immunology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center/Cornell University and pursued postdoctoral training at Rockefeller University. Since joining the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton University in 2013, his research has focused on immune responses and the pathogenesis of human infectious diseases, particularly hepatotropic viruses such as hepatitis B and C, as well as related flaviviruses and malaria. His group develops innovative technologies for studying and intervening in human hepatotropic infections using humanized mouse models. Ploss has received numerous accolades for his contributions to the field, including the Kimberly Lawrence Cancer Research Discovery Fund Award and various fellowships, recognizing his significant impact on infectious disease research.
