Biography

Professor Alexander Pretschner holds a chair in Software Systems Engineering at the Technical University of Munich, where he has been a full professor since 2012. He studied computer science at RWTH Aachen University and the University of Kansas, where he was a recipient of the Fulbright grant. After obtaining his doctorate from TUM, he worked for five years as a senior researcher at ETH Zurich. In the framework of the Fraunhofer Attract Program, he moved to lead the research group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering in Kaiserslautern. He is also an adjunct associate professor at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern. In 2018, he became the founding director of the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation. His research focuses on software systems engineering, with a main emphasis on testing and information security. Professor Pretschner has been involved in various research initiatives and has received several notable awards including the IBM Faculty Award and the Google Focused Research Award. He has also served as the scientific director and spokesman of the scientific board of fortiss, a Bavarian state research institute dedicated to software-intensive systems and services.
