Biography

Sandy has a 25-year track record in teaching, research, and publication in public health policy. He began his professional life as a school teacher and completed a Master's programme in Public Health at Manchester University in 1986. He spent four years as a Public Health Specialist in a community drug service role and as a primary care facilitator. Sandy entered higher education as a Lecturer in Health Care Studies at Manchester Metropolitan University in 1991 and returned to the Public Health Department at Manchester University in 1992 to teach on the Public Health Masters programme. In 1997, he became a Research Manager at NHS Health Scotland and returned to higher education in 2000 at St Martin's College, Lancaster. He has held his current position as a Lecturer in Health Social Policy at the University of Glasgow's School of Social & Environmental Sustainability since 2002 and has taught extensively at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Over the past seven years, he has been the leader of the MA (Hons.) Health and Social Policy programme, overseeing multiple field research projects related to public health implementation and policy.
