Alexandra Ana holds a doctorate in political science and sociology from the Scuola Normale Superiore, where she defended her thesis in 2019 under the supervision of Donatella della Porta and co-supervision of Lorenzo Mosca. Her doctoral research focused on comparative feminist movements and the dynamics of NGO-ization, published by Palgrave in 2024. She analyzes the NGO-ization process by tracing its development and connections to neoliberal governance modes and techniques. Results highlight dimensions of institutionalization, professionalization, bureaucratization, and precarization within social movements, examining effects such as demobilization, depoliticization, and co-optation. Before joining the Department of Sociology at Université de Montréal, she held a Marie Sklodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellowship at the Free University of Brussels, working on the CORESIST project, which critically examines resistance forms against anti-gender movements and policies. Her current research extends to analyzing anti-gender movements and feminist and 2SLGBTQIA+ resistance forms in Quebec and English-speaking Canada. Alexandra has also served as a Teaching Fellow at Sciences Po Paris, teaching courses on gender sociology and visual sociology. Her interdisciplinary work intersects political sociology, gender studies, and decolonial approaches, focusing on the relationships between feminism and neoliberalism, and the memory's role in mobilization dynamics.
