Dr. Alexandra Courcoula

Biography

Alexandra Courcoula is a Research Associate in the Department of Classics at Brown University. She earned her PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, specializing in the History, Theory, and Criticism of Architecture with a focus on the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture. Her doctoral research was conducted as a fellow at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens. Before joining Brown, she served as a lecturer at both the Boston Architectural College and Hellenic College. Alexandra has also worked at various museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal. Her research interests primarily revolve around the history of collecting in museums and the dynamics of nationalism in the Ottoman and post-Ottoman world during the 19th and 20th centuries.
