Dr. Alexandra Deal

Biography

Alexandra (Lexi) Deal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Michigan. Her research primarily focuses on the interfacial chemistry of air-water interfaces, employing a combination of analytical and physical chemistry techniques. She has contributed significantly to understanding the unique physicochemical environments present at these interfaces and their implications across a variety of fields, including environmental chemistry and materials development. Lexi's innovative work involves using surface-specific spectroscopy and sensitive mass spectroscopic methods to investigate fundamental questions about the reactivity and properties of solutes at air-water interfaces. Her academic journey includes postdoctoral research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and obtaining a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Colorado Boulder. Outside of her research, she is dedicated to educating future scientists and teaching courses such as Analytical Spectroscopy.
