Jazz Dickinson received her PhD in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. She conducted post-doctoral research in developmental plant biology under Professor Philip Benfey at Duke University. Additionally, she has served as a visiting scientist at Stanford University. Dr. Dickinson is a recipient of several awards including the Arnold O. Beckman Postdoctoral Fellowship Award, the Boka W. Hadzija Award for Distinguished University Service from UNC-CH, and the Ruth L. Kirschstein Graduate Fellowship Award. She joined the University of California, San Diego faculty in 2020 to pursue research into small molecule regulation in development. Her research program aims to identify metabolites that regulate stem cell functions and to determine the mechanisms of action involved. Specifically, her lab applies high spatial resolution metabolomics, chemical genetics, and molecular biology to uncover novel signaling pathways in the Arabidopsis root meristem, focusing on how metabolites influence cellular processes during development.
