Biography

Alexandra Gajda is an Associate Professor of Early Modern History at Jesus College, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on the political and religious intellectual life of sixteenth and early seventeenth-century England. Gajda's monograph examined the interplay of politics and ideas during this era, specifically through the influence of Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex, on late Elizabethan political culture. Currently, she is investigating the relationship between religious and constitutional history during the Reformation in the British Isles, including the writing of history in Parliament in sixteenth-century England and Wales. Her work delves into early modern historiography and historical thought, reflecting on the narratives formed around Queen Elizabeth's reign. Gajda is also editing the letters of Fulke Greville, a poet and statesman, for an upcoming edition of Greville's Complete Works. Additionally, she is researching concepts of statecraft and the political education of English gentlemen during the Elizabethan and early Stuart periods.
