Biography

Alexandra Gheciu is a Professor at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and the Director of the Centre for International Policy Studies at the University of Ottawa. Her research interests encompass international security, international institutions, Euro-Atlantic relations, global governance, the liberal order, global rights, state (re)building, and theories of International Relations. Gheciu has authored significant works, including 'NATO’s 'New Europe': Politics of International Socialization during the Cold War' (Stanford University Press, 2005) and 'Securing Civilization?' (Oxford University Press, 2008). She also co-edited 'Return of the Public: Global Governance' (Cambridge University Press, 2014-2015) and 'Security Entrepreneurs: Performing Protection in Post-Cold War Europe' (Oxford University Press, 2018). Furthermore, she contributed to the 'Oxford Handbook of International Security' (co-edited with William Wohlforth, Oxford University Press, 2018). Before her tenure at the University of Ottawa, she held academic positions at prestigious institutions such as the University of Oxford and the European University Institute in Florence. Gheciu has served as an Associate Editor for the journal 'Security Studies' and is currently on the editorial boards of 'European Journal of International Security' and 'Security Studies'.
