Biography

Alexandra Huneeus’ scholarship focuses on international law and human rights, with an emphasis on Latin America. Her work has appeared in the American Journal of International Law, Harvard International Law Journal, Law & Social Inquiry, Yale Journal of International Law, and Leiden International Law Journal, published by Cambridge University Press. As the Evjue-Bascom Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Law, Society, and Justice at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, she has a distinguished academic career. Huneeus received her PhD, JD, and BA from the University of California, Berkeley, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford University's Center for Development, Democracy, and the Rule of Law. In 2017, she was named to a ten-year term as a Foreign Expert Jurist for the Colombian Jurisdicción para la Paz (JEP), a court established as part of the Colombian peace process. Currently, she also serves as the Co-Chair of the University of Wisconsin's Human Rights Program, which she co-founded, and is the Director of the Global Legal Studies Program. Huneeus has been actively involved in various professional organizations, including the American Society of International Law and the Law and Society Association, and has served on the Board of Editors for the American Journal of International Law and Law & Social Inquiry. She has received several awards for her scholarly work, including prizes from the International Society of Public Law and the American Association of Law Schools.
