Biography

Alexandra Lawrie is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Edinburgh. She completed her PhD on English extramural institutions at the fin de siècle in March 2012. Lawrie's teaching and research focus primarily on contemporary British and American fiction, and she is actively involved in supervising PhD students in these areas. Her undergraduate courses include 'Modern American Novel,' 'Twenty-First-Century Fiction,' 'The American Novel 1970-2010,' and 'Critical Practice: Prose.' Lawrie has published articles in prestigious journals such as the Journal of American Studies, Journal of Modern Literature, and Cambridge Quarterly. Her recent book, titled 'Writing the Past: Twenty-First-Century American Fiction,' was published by Edinburgh University Press in 2022, with another book, 'The American Presidency in Twenty-First-Century Fiction,' set to release in late 2025/early 2026. This current research project, under contract with Edinburgh University Press, examines post-war presidential history as depicted through contemporary American novels.
