Biography

Alexandra Lossada works on immigration, citizenship, and language in contemporary American ethnic literatures, with a particular focus on Latinx and Chicanx writing. Her current manuscript project, tentatively entitled 'Interpreter Crimmigration Detention,' reevaluates the role of interpreters in post-9/11 literary works that depict detention, deportation, and family separation, examining the legal apparatus of crimmigration and the intersection of criminal and immigration law. Her work has been recognized with an American Council of Learned Societies fellowship for the 2025-2026 term. Prior to joining Berkeley, Lossada served as an Assistant Professor of English at Berry College from 2022 to 2025. She obtained her PhD in English from Johns Hopkins University in 2022.
