Biography

Alexandra Lysova studied intimate partner violence, violence against women and children for over 20 years, having worked in Russia and currently in Canada. Her research focuses on men's experiences of intimate partner violence, victimization, help-seeking behavior, and issues involving children. She utilizes data drawn from international focus groups and Canadian surveys such as the General Social Survey Victimization and Homicide Survey. Lysova is a serving member on Working Groups for Statistics Canada, focusing on gender-based violence and homicide. Her research has received support from prominent institutions, including the Fulbright Foundation, Alexander Humboldt Foundation, Carnegie Foundation, and the Trudeau Foundation. Lysova has authored or co-authored around 70 scholarly articles, book chapters, and books in both Russian and English, acting as principal investigator for major grants that focus on partner violence and spousal homicide. She regularly presents at international conferences and has been featured in various media outlets. In 2022, she was awarded the Sterling Prize for her support of controversial academic work.
