Alexandra Vukovich joined King’s College London in 2022. She is a historian of the Byzantine world, focusing on Northern Eurasia during the middle to late medieval period, particularly the emergence of early Rus and the establishment of Muscovy as a successor state to the Mongol Empire. Alexandra has explored the movement of texts, ideas, and objects across Eurasia and has described medieval Slavonic chronicles and material culture. Her research interests cover state formation and long-distance trade in Eurasia. Initially, Alexandra undertook her studies in France and received both her MPhil and PhD from the University of Cambridge, where she was supervised by Professor Simon Franklin. She has held fellowships at Newnham College (University of Cambridge), the British School at Athens, Dumbarton Oaks Research Institute of Harvard University, and was awarded a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Oxford. Alexandra serves as a commissioning editor for the 'Worlds of the Slavs' series at Brill. Her research includes medieval Northern Eurasia, early Rus, Muscovy, Mongol history, Byzantine imperial history, the late medieval Balkans, and the interaction of medieval Greek writing and literature with historical anthropology, including the reception of medieval artefacts.
