Biography

Alexandre Bayen is a Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Applied Mathematics from Ecole Polytechnique in France, obtained in July 1998, followed by a Master’s degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University in June 1999, and a Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University in December 2003. Prior to his academic career, he served as a Visiting Researcher at NASA Ames Research Center from 2000 to 2003 and as Research Director at the Autonomous Laboratory at the French Ministry of Defence from January to December 2004. Bayen has been at UC Berkeley since 2005, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010. His research focuses on modeling and controlling distributed parameter systems, with applications in transportation systems, such as air traffic control and highway systems, as well as in water distribution networks. He has contributed significantly to academia with over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and conferences and received multiple prestigious awards for his work, including the Ballhaus Award from Stanford University in 2004 and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) from the White House in 2010.
