Dr. Alexandre Koberle

Biography

Alexandre Koberle is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College Business School, specializing in long-term scenarios of socio-environmental change with a particular focus on nexus approaches that explore transitions toward alternative sustainable development futures. His interdisciplinary research employs mathematical models to develop plausible scenarios that are beneficial for stakeholders aiming to identify risks and opportunities for improved human welfare and environmental sustainability. Koberle is particularly interested in transformative systems approaches that bridge various sectors and disciplines—including nature, food, finance, and climate—while addressing emerging trade-offs and synergies in sustainable development objectives. He leads the Natural Capital research workstream at the Centre for Climate Finance and Investment, contributing to climate-related transition risk analyses, and has authored reports that examine the impacts of climate risks on agriculture and transition pathways for coal-dependent firms in India. As Principal Investigator for several projects, including Finance and Biodiversity, Koberle's work has garnered significant attention for its relevance to navigating low-carbon, nature-positive futures. He is also involved in international collaborative research, including the IPCC's 6th Assessment Report. Koberle holds a DSc in Energy Planning from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, a Master's degree in Environmental Resource Management from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and a BSc in Plant Biology Ecology from the University of California, Davis.
