Alexandre Stewart is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology at the University of Ottawa. He has been the Director of the Laboratory of Translational Genomics at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute since joining in 2005. Prior to this, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh Cardiovascular Institute from 1995. Dr. Stewart completed his PhD in Anatomy and Organismal Biology at the University of Chicago after receiving post-doctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco. His extensive academic background includes a Master’s degree in Physiology and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Ottawa. Dr. Stewart is a founding member of the CARDIoGRAM consortium, which focuses on genetic risk factors for coronary artery disease through Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS). His research interests center on the mechanisms of coronary artery calcification and the regulation of the innate immune response, with an aim to develop new therapies that enhance prevention and treatment outcomes for cardiovascular diseases. He was awarded the Investigator of the Year award by the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in 2014.
