Biography

Alexandre Wenger is a Full Professor and Director of the Interfaculty Centre for Bioethics at the University of Geneva. His research focuses on the historical connections between medicine and the arts, including poetry, novels, and film. Currently, he is co-Principal Investigator of a Swiss National Science Foundation project titled 'ArchiMed: Mining Medical Archives in the Digital Age', which takes an interdisciplinary approach to biobanks and historic medical collections of human tissue specimens. He has a particular interest in the history of syphilis and leads an international research project on this topic, funded by the SNSF. In addition, he established an online platform dedicated to dermatological wax moulages, drawing from the material history of medicine. Wenger is actively involved in organizing international academic events and public engagement initiatives that explore the relationships between film and medicine.
