Biography

Alexandro Segade is an interdisciplinary artist whose queer world-building projects propose speculative group identities through collaborative working collectives. His artistic practice involves critical play, employing collaboration to complicate utopian impulses and radical ambivalence. Segade’s work intersects performance, writing, drawing, video, installation, theater, sculpture, music, and comics, challenging genre distinctions and disrupting political imagination. His multimedia science fiction performance series, set in a queer dystopia titled Clonifornia, includes works such as 'Future St.' published in the Yale Theater Journal in 2017, and has been presented at various esteemed venues including the Park Avenue Armory and the Whitney Museum. His graphic novel 'Context' (Primary Information, 2020) engages with themes from the virtual convention culture. Segade’s writings, which address the overlooked narratives of the AIDS era and feminist performance art, have appeared in notable publications such as Artforum and Keywords Comics Studies. He is known for his queer comics podcast, Supergay!, and his collaborative efforts span decades with numerous artists including Malik Gaines. Segade holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Studio Art from UCLA and has had teaching roles at various institutions, including Bard College and Hunter College.
