Biography

Alexandros Gezerlis is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Guelph, where he has been since 2013. He received his PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2009 and has worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory, as well as serving as a Research Associate at the University of Washington. He was also the first Herzberg Fellow at Technische Universitaet Darmstadt in Germany. His research focuses on quantum many-body theory, with a particular emphasis on fermions. Gezerlis employs high-performance computing to address fundamental questions in Nuclear Theory, Nuclear Structure, and Nuclear Astrophysics. His work explores the complex interactions of nucleons and the behavior of neutron stars under extreme conditions. Gezerlis’ innovative contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the Research Excellence Award from the University of Guelph in 2017 and the Early Researcher Award from the Ontario Ministry of Research, Innovation and Science in the same year. Additionally, he has received funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and has been featured in various media outlets for his significant discoveries in the field.
