Biography

Alexandros Gezerlis is a Professor at the University of Guelph’s Department of Physics. He received his PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2009. Following his doctorate, he spent several years at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, worked as a Research Associate at the University of Washington, and was the inaugural Herzberg Fellow at Technische Universitaet Darmstadt in Germany. Gezerlis employs high-performance computing facilities to explore a wide range of topics, including ultracold atomic gases, neutron stars, and nuclear astrophysics. He utilizes microscopic simulation methods and phenomenological approaches to predict and understand complex physics phenomena, particularly in relation to nucleons and the fundamental theory of Quantum Chromodynamics. His work has implications for both terrestrial experiments and astrophysical objects. He has received several awards for his contributions to research, including the Research Excellence Award from the Office of Research at the University of Guelph and has been recognized with various grants and fellowships.
