Alexey Kostikov received his M.Sc. degree in Chemistry from Saint-Petersburg State University in Russia in 2001 and completed his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Georgia in the United States in 2007. He undertook a postdoctoral appointment at Syracuse University and joined the Montreal Neurological Institute in 2009 as a Research Associate. He later became an Assistant Professor focusing on radiochemistry. His current research projects are centered around the development of novel positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracers for in vivo imaging, exploring neurological biomarkers, and improving the efficiency of radiolabeling procedures. Kostikov employs a microPET camera for pre-clinical imaging and was appointed director of the microPET unit in 2017. He is heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of the PET/cyclotron core facility, which provides an extensive library of PET radiotracers for the neuroscience research community at McGill and across the province of Quebec.
