Biography

Alexey Solodovnikov is an associate professor and curator at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in systematic entomology, primarily focusing on rove beetles from the family Staphylinidae. His research involves discovering new species, developing phylogeny-based classifications, and capturing evolutionary and biogeographic patterns to better understand biodiversity. Originally from the North-Western Caucasus mountains, he graduated from Krasnodar University in 1993 and obtained his PhD from St. Petersburg State University in 1997, where he worked with collections at the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Science. In 2002, he moved to the USA for postdoctoral work at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, collaborating with renowned experts in the field. He joined the Natural History Museum of Denmark at the University of Copenhagen in 2007, overseeing the Coleoptera collection, and was appointed as an associate professor. In 2022, he was appointed to lead the museum's Zoology research section. Solodovnikov teaches various courses in entomology and mentors students at Master, PhD, and postdoctoral levels, contributing to sustainable taxonomic expertise in insect studies.
