Biography

Alexey Tumanov began his tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science at Georgia Tech in August 2019 after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley. At Berkeley, he collaborated closely with Ion Stoica and Joseph Gonzalez. He earned his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University, where he was advised by Gregory Ganger and received the prestigious Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship (NSERC CGS-D3) which was partially funded by the Intel Science Technology Centre. Prior to his time at Carnegie Mellon, he worked on agile stateful virtual machine replication and para-virtualization at the University of Toronto under the mentorship of Eyal de Lara and Michael Brudno. His research interests include cloud computing, datacenter operating systems, and programming for the cloud, stemming from his commitment to developing middleware for distributed datacenter resource management based on industry insights.
