Biography

Alexis Dunn Amore is a Clinical Associate Professor at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, focusing on advancing health for vulnerable populations, particularly in perinatal health. Her work addresses health disparities and racism in midwifery and nursing education, and she has contributed to initiatives aimed at reducing maternal mortality. With active funding from the National Institutes of Health and the American College of Nurse Midwives, she is currently a Co-Investigator on an R01 study investigating the biological mechanisms of labor dysfunction. Amore's research has been published in major journals, including the Journal of Midwifery & Women’s Health and BMC Pregnancy & Childbirth. She has served as the Vice-President of the American College of Nurse Midwives and is a fellow of both the American Academy of Nursing and the American College of Nurse Midwives. Before joining NYU, she was a tenure-track assistant professor at Emory University's Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing and a certified nurse midwife in community settings in Atlanta. Amore's advancement in midwifery education promotes diversity, equity, and community collaborations, striving to improve health outcomes for Black women during pregnancy.
