Biography

Alexis Kearney, MD, MPH, is an accomplished emergency physician and educator with a strong focus on global emergency medicine and outbreak prevention response. Currently serving as an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at The Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Alexis graduated from Middlebury College magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 2005. Subsequently, Alexis earned a Master of Public Health from Yale University School of Public Health in 2007, concentrating on epidemiology and microbial disease. Alexis has worked extensively with the Clinton Foundation in Ethiopia and has held positions with the CDC in Nairobi, Kenya, and Bangkok, Thailand. Following medical school at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, Alexis completed residency training at Brown University, participating in courses that expanded knowledge in global health and disaster response. Notably, Alexis has conducted research on emergency department patients at an urban hospital in Kigali, Rwanda, and has a keen interest in developing emergency medicine in Ecuador, currently serving as the ACEP International Deputy Ambassador. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Alexis played a pivotal role in the Brown EM Project Hope, working with an international NGO to provide scientific updates and training to healthcare workers. Additionally, Alexis has served as the medical director for the Rhode Island Department of Health during the pandemic and continues to coordinate international electives for emergency medicine residents at Brown.
