Biography

Alexis McGivern is the Head of Stakeholder Engagement Research Fellow at Oxford Net Zero, where she focuses on translating academic research into net-zero guidance for corporations, civil society, and policymakers. Her work aims to strengthen the integrity of net-zero targets while addressing justice and equity concerns associated with achieving net-zero by 2050. Alexis has co-created and runs the Global Youth Climate Training Programme in collaboration with the Oxford Global Youth Coalition, which has trained 5,000 young climate activists for the UNFCCC negotiations in 2023. She also co-chairs the Race Zero Professional Services Providers Working Group, which brings together a diverse group of stakeholders to define what high integrity net-zero looks like from the perspective of professional service providers. Currently, she is a part of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol’s Technical Working Group, revising the Corporate Standard for the first time in 20 years. As the Co-Programme Director of the Oxford Sustainable Business Programme, she leads a sustainability leadership course at Oxford. Alexis holds a dual degree as a Pershing Square Scholar from the University of Oxford, where she completed an MPhil at the School of Geography and the Environment, focusing on the politics of waste incineration and community resistance in the UK. She also earned an MBA from the Saïd Business School, aiming to understand the motivations of businesses in creating lasting change. Additionally, her background includes community organizing for refugee rights and support for low-income households during the COVID-19 pandemic in Oxford.
