Biography

Dr. Alexis Topjian is a pediatric critical care medicine physician at Children's Hospital Philadelphia. She graduated from Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, received her MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and earned a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Topjian completed her pediatrics residency and pediatric critical care medicine fellowship at Children's Hospital Philadelphia. She is a professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and serves as an attending physician in the pediatric intensive care unit. Dr. Topjian developed the post cardiac arrest care program at CHOP and is a leader in the CHOP resuscitation program. Her clinical research interests include neurocritical care, neuromonitoring, treatment of status epilepticus in the ICU, and targeted temperature management. An NIH-funded researcher, she focuses on post cardiac arrest care and neuroprognostication. Dr. Topjian has chaired the American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support Guidelines for 2020-2025 and is a member of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation Pediatric Life Support Task Force. She is also the Associate Chair for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development in her department. Dr. Topjian is passionate about mentoring and was recognized with the Joanne Decker Mentor Award in 2022.
