Biography

Alexzandria Poole is a Lecturer in Law and the Director of Defender Initiatives at the University of Chicago Law School. She serves as a point person for public defender offices nationwide through her work at Zealous, where she trains defenders and allies in non-traditional systemic advocacy tools and supports advocacy campaigns in collaboration with impacted communities. Alexz jointly develops and supervises law school clinical projects, including the University of Chicago's Police Accountability Project clinic, and co-develops and co-teaches law school curriculum for law schools across the country. Before her current role, Alexz spent her legal career serving as a public defender in New York City and Detroit. In addition to her role as a trial attorney, she has facilitated community engagement initiatives, such as Know Your Rights trainings for immigrant communities in New York and for youth in Detroit. Alexz has also advocated for discovery reform in Albany, New York, and promoted data integrity and systemic change in public defender office settings.
