Biography

Professor Alfonso Castrejon-Pita obtained a D.Phil. in Physics from the University of Oxford, funded by the prestigious Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Award. His research is centered on experimental and theoretical studies of synchronization phenomena in fluids. He completed a postdoctoral position at a laboratory funded by the NERC (Natural Environment Research Council, UK), where he led the experimental demonstration of synchronization chaos in mutually-coupled fluid flows, which has greater implications for atmospheric dynamics and weather forecasting. In April 2011, he became a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, working at St. John’s College, where he redirected his research towards understanding the dynamics of small-scale free surface flows. Awarded a Royal Society University Research Fellowship in October 2013, he currently holds the position of Professor of Fluid Mechanics and Tutorial Fellow at Wadham College, University of Oxford. He has established the Fluid Dynamics Laboratory primarily for the study of drops and liquid jets, supervising research students at various levels in the Department of Engineering Science.
