Biography

Alfred Archer completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh and subsequently worked at the University of Bristol before joining Tilburg University in 2015. His primary research interests lie in moral philosophy, moral psychology, and social philosophy. Dr. Archer is currently investigating the role that admiration plays in human lives, particularly in relation to morality, culture, and politics. He was involved in the NWO Veni grant (2017-2021) focused on the Nature of Value Admiration and the Moral Beacons Project at Wake Forest University, which aimed to identify morally exceptional individuals between 2016 and 2017. Dr. Archer holds a keen interest in pressing ethical and political issues surrounding fame and celebrity. Additionally, he is actively researching applied ethics, particularly in bioethics, aesthetic normativity, political philosophy, and the philosophy of sport.
