Biography

Professor Alfredo Alexander-Katz earned a BS in Physics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1998 and a PhD in Physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2004. His doctoral research focused on understanding the self-assembly of copolymers using novel field-theoretical methods. As a National Science Foundation International Postdoctoral Fellow, he moved to Munich, Germany, where he studied the dynamics of driven polymers, leading to important discoveries that unraveled the mystery of the blood clotting process at high shear rates, thus opening new pathways for the development of novel shear-responsive materials. Following this, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the École Supérieure de Physique et Chimie Industrielle Paris, where he investigated charged polymer solutions and their self-assembly, with direct applications in fuel cells.
