Biography

Alfredo R. Arribas is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Dentistry. He was born in Piura, Peru, and received both his Bachelor of Science and Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru, in 1996. After moving to the U.S. in 1997, he completed a certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in 1998 and a two-year General Practice Residency in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at LSU Health Sciences Center from 2000 to 2001. In 2004, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Health Care Management from the University of New Orleans. His academic career includes serving as the GPR Program Director at LSUHSC from 2001 to 2005 and as the Associate Program Director for the AEGD program at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry from 2005 to 2008. After returning to complete his residency in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at LSUHSC, he joined West Texas Maxillofacial Surgery in El Paso, Texas, and served on the faculty at UT Health San Antonio from December 2014 to March 2020. Dr. Arribas is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and his research interests include trauma, facial reconstructive surgery, dental implants, dentoalveolar surgery, and orthognathic surgery. He has lectured extensively and published work on topics such as the treatment of medically compromised patients and pain control in sedation dentistry.
