Biography

Ali Asmar is an Associate Research Professor and Chief Physician in the Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen, as well as at the Department of Clinical Physiology & Nuclear Medicine at Copenhagen University Hospital – Bispebjerg Hospital & Rigshospitalet. He graduated as a medical doctor in 2009 and earned his PhD in 2015. Asmar is a board-certified specialist in Clinical Physiology & Nuclear Medicine and heads the Clinical Physiology Laboratory. His research primarily focuses on the mechanisms of cardio-renal-metabolic diseases, with key interests in mechanistic clinical studies involving blood pressure regulation, sodium and fat metabolism, and the interplay between gastrointestinal hormones and vascular biology. His laboratory is recognized for its expertise in combining arteriovenous difference techniques with advanced functional imaging modalities such as 15O-labeled H2O PET/CT and multiparametric MRI, enabling detailed molecular phenotyping of major organ interactions. Asmar has also served on the editorial board for the 3rd Edition textbook of Clinical Nuclear Medicine and is active in various medical societies related to his field.
