Professor Dr. Ali Erdemir

Biography

Ali Erdemir is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University and holds the Halliburton Chair in Engineering. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a University Distinguished Professor. His research focuses on bridging scientific principles with engineering innovations, including the development of new materials, coatings, and lubricants for a broad range of applications. He studies mechanisms to control friction, wear, and lubrication, particularly through advanced surface technologies and lubricant chemistries. His work also emphasizes upcycling plastic waste into lubricating oils in a continuously recyclable manner, contributing to safety, efficiency, and reliability in electric vehicle applications. Dr. Erdemir has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including a Fellow designation from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the European Academy of Sciences. He is also recognized for his contributions with several prestigious awards related to tribology and materials science.
