Biography

Ali Gooya is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computing Science at the University of Glasgow, UK, having joined in 2022. Previously, he was a Lecturer at the University of Leeds from 2018 to 2022 and held positions at the University of Sheffield from 2016 to 2018. He has received multiple prestigious fellowships including those from the Allen Touring Institute (2022), the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) (2020), and the Marie Curie Individual Fellowship (2014). He completed his PhD in medical image analysis at the University of Tokyo in 2007 and worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Pennsylvania (2008-2011) focusing on developing machine learning methods for medical vision applications. His research interests broadly encompass machine learning, computer vision, and medical imaging, with specific focus on deep probabilistic learning and applications in cancer and cardiac image analysis, as well as computational anatomy. He is particularly interested in developing semi/unsupervised machine learning methods for AI in healthcare and has a strong background in creating innovative deep Bayesian frameworks involving rigorous mathematical modeling.
