Ali Hammoudi joined Windsor Law as an Assistant Professor in 2024, having previously held positions such as Law Foundation Ontario Scholar and Ianni Fellow at Windsor Law. He was also a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National University of Singapore's Faculty of Law. Dr. Hammoudi earned his PhD from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University. His research emphasizes critical legal scholarship and historical perspectives, employing Marxist World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL) methodologies. He addresses the interconnections between law, labor relations, and capitalism, particularly in the Global South and Turtle Island. A prolific author, Dr. Hammoudi has published widely in reputable journals covering areas including the history of international law, international labor law, and comparative legal theory, particularly with a focus on the legal history of the Middle East and Iraq. His forthcoming book, Manufacturing Sovereignty: International Law, Labour Struggle Making Iraq, examines how international law shaped the legal manufacture of sovereignty in establishing the Iraqi state and legitimizing Western economic control, especially regarding oil extraction.
