Ali Imanpour joined the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta in 2017. Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral fellow at McGill University. He has worked as a structural engineer from 2006 to 2010, contributing to design and retrofit projects. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in behavior and design of structures. His research aims to blend analytical and experimental investigations with Artificial Intelligence techniques to develop understanding, strategies, and tools for the design of civil infrastructure under extreme natural hazard events, such as earthquakes and wind. His current research activities include the development of seismic design procedures for steel-framed structures using analytical and experimental methods, enhancing resilient structural systems for seismic and wind applications, and improving steel design and fabrication using AI-based tools. He is actively involved in consulting for structural design projects and contributes to the development of national standards. Imanpour is also a member of technical committees for CSA standards related to steel structures and modular construction.
