Dr. Ali Kashani

Biography

Dr. Ali Kashani is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New South Wales. He leads pioneering research in sustainable low-carbon concrete and cementitious materials tailored for the construction and mining industries. His primary focus revolves around the development of innovative high-performance materials and techniques, particularly in the realm of robot-aided construction and 3D printing. A significant aspect of Dr. Kashani's research lies in sustainable concrete applications aligned with the principles of the Circular Economy. His work encompasses waste valorization, carbon capture and mineralization, as well as alkali-activated materials (geopolymers). He has led and participated in multiple research projects, securing substantial funding from government entities and private industries, amounting to a total of $7 million. Dr. Kashani has authored 70 publications, with an impressive citation count of 9,000. He has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the National Award for Excellence in Concrete Technology Innovation from the Concrete Institute of Australia, and is a recipient of the Churchill Fellowship for Digital Construction 3D Printing. He actively engages in professional community activities, serving as Co-Chair of the cement and concrete working group for the Materials Embodied Carbon Leaders Alliance (MECLA) and has been involved with various committees in the Concrete Institute of Australia in New South Wales.
